One time I was driving under an underpass and there was a vet with a sign, I rolled down the window of my 98’ taurus and offered him a $10 bill.
He looked at me, genuinely concerned that I could afford it, and asked me if I was sure.
I said yes, and handed him the $10.
I was making $9 or $10 an hour at the time, broke, but i had a roof over my head and food in my belly, and he did not.
And this isn’t a story about me doing a good deed, or any nonsense like that.
But that good people fall on hard times. Sometimes people make a choice that hurts them to avoid hurting others.
Those people are not the bankers, CEO’s, or presidents of the world.
They’re the lone army veteran under the underpass, who thought I needed $10 more than he did.
I hope he’s doing better now.
