We are not stupid and we are not crazy ~ A

Faith

I fell, hard today while walking. It hurt, it took me a minute to collect myself.

An elderly couple came over to me – she had a cane. They helped me up, helped me grab my things, asked if I was ok and told me to be careful. The woman told me she knew what it was like to fall because she had mobility issues. I thanked them, said I’d be more careful, and walked away.

In 2008 I ran the philly half marathon. I was in the wrong section when it was starting, so I hopped the fence. I fell and broke my finger. Several people saw me fall, I saw them turn around. No one asked if i was ok or offered to help me up.

That finger needed surgery, 2 metal pins, and 6 months of PT to work right again.

But I ran the race anyway that day. In 2 hours and 9 minutes.

And I remembered that race and that no help was offered.

But I’m really grateful for that woman today.

And it’s those moments that keep me going.
