The measure of a man is not in his stature
Not in his wealth
Nor his education
Nor in the company he keeps
The measure of a man is in the distance he will kneel to help another
It is in the inches he will take from himself to prop up one who cannot stand alone
It is not in the fine silks of his shirt
But in the back that is bare from that shirt given away
It is not in the firm handshake, the successful business deal, or the shiny perfect family
But in the bear hug he gives and the tears he cries to give comfort to one who needs it
His burden is great
But so is his strength and his kindness
And that is how a man is measured.
