I’ve always been a decent student, a business major, took the “boring and expected path”
But on the darkest days I don’t remember what math homework I worked on while holding back tears.
But I remember the songs I’ve wept to alone until I fell asleep.
I remember the books I drowned myself in, curled up in the corner between my dresser and closet in front of the heating vent.
The only place I felt safe, loved, warm.
Life is different now.
I have more and less.
I’m not a Wharton-bound D1 athlete
But I no longer have to weep alone
There’s a strong warm shoulder
Belonging to the best man I’ve ever known
I love you. Always. No matter what comes.
